Spring Term 11

Newsletter Spring Term 11

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had another very busy learning week with lots of additional activities taking place for your children, as well as our normal excellent learning that is always well delivered by my staff.

1. Our Thinking Topic
This week we have been thinking about new growth and all the lovely signs of Spring and how we should be thankful and not moan. Please talk to your children about this lovely season.

2. Y2 Dance Extravaganza
This took place on Monday night at the Victoria Hall in Hanley and was a fantastic evening and experience for our Y2’s. This was an event organised by the Stoke School Sport Partnership that we pay into with our PE Budget. The children’s performance ‘A Day in the Life of a Mouse’ was outstanding and they only had two practices during the morning, at what is one of our most iconic buildings in the City. There were performances from other City schools including high schools and sixth form colleges. Our performance was genuinely one of the best and the children were brilliant all evening, supporting other schools as parents/carers who came to the performance will testify. Very well done to Miss Mazzei, Miss Pickerill and Mrs Connelly for their expert choreography and training of an excellent year group, we are all very proud of our pupils!

3. Sport Relief

sport-relief-2014

Thank you for your support for our ‘Sport Relief Golden Mile’. We raised £140.30 which has been forwarded. We had a lot of pupils and parents/carers who supported the event and enjoyed walking the mile.

4. PE Kits
We are still having children with no kit for their 2 hours of PE that we provide at St John’s to keep the children healthy. Any child who has no kit records the lesson and is in detention on Friday with
Miss Pickerill. These children will also not be considered for athletics/football/tennis competitions and other sporting events that we have in the summer term. Please make sure your child has their kit in school for each half term so that your child is able to take part. Our PE kit is very simple and only costs a fraction of monthly child allowance; we require a white t-shirt and black shorts and black pumps for indoor sports and a blue or black tracksuit and trainers for outdoor sports. Luckily the vast majority if children are brilliantly attired thank you!

5. Cross Country
Very well done to Demi Hanks, Grace Cooper, Josna Joseph, Elise Steventon, Demi-Lea Elton, Ben Burgess, Jayden Shepherd-Moss, Joshua Simpson from Y6 and Kitty Sinclair, Kyle Lovatt and Owen Gaskill from Y5 who took part in the cross country competition today. They have all worked hard, done additional training with Mr Walter and improved their performance with great determination over 4 weeks, very well done children.

6. Disco
This is today, Thursday 3-4pm for FS/KS1 and 3-4:15pm for KS2 as a fun opportunity and to raise funds to spend on extras for your children. 9 children have been stopped from attending for receiving a Red Card (parents/carers have been sent a text) as this is a way we have of rewarding our ‘always children’ and teaching children that their actions have consequences.

7. Office Information
Nursery Dinners – The Nursery lunch menu will change after Easter and as a result the daily cost for a lunch will be £2.00 per day. The reason for the reduction in cost is because unlike the older children, Nursery children only have one choice per day. This is to help younger children to try different foods rather than selecting tastes that are already familiar to them – please see the attached menu.

8. Home School Link Worker Information
Calling all MALE family members!!! – come along to school for a ‘Men’s breakfast’, tea/coffee and toast and a chat on Wednesday 9th April 9am -10am – letters will be sent out on 31st March, please return if attending so that we know how many to cater for!
Head Lice – Again we are having a few cases of head lice around school. Please check hair and treat if necessary. It’s a good idea to get into a routine and check hair weekly – don’t forget that treatment in many chemists in the Stoke area is FREE!!!
