Newsletter Spring Term 4
We have finished another busy learning week at St John’s and all the children have been very busy with their learning in their classrooms.
1) Valentines Disco
This will take place next Thursday for KS1 & KS2 pupils only. Children can bring in their own clothes to change in to at the end of the day. Please collect your child at 4:00 pm from the usual doors. Payment for the disco is £2.50 and this includes entrance, crisps and a drink – please make this payment via ParentPay from Monday 6th February. Children can bring along a little extra money in a sealed envelope or purse if they wish to buy other treats – we will also be selling ‘Glow Bands’ for 50p each.
2) Our Talking Topic
This week we have been thinking about ‘climate change’ and the impact that this is having all over the world. We talked about how Christians and other faiths made a beautiful world for us to live in and we all have a special job to do, by looking after it and recycling all we can. Please talk to your child about this.
3) Our Value; Respect
This is something we talk a lot to the children about as it is a core Value at St John’s.
The children were busy learning multiplication in maths.
5) Y6 Residential French Visit
Y6 arrived back late last Friday after a very successful visit where they had so many wonderful experiences. The children were complimented on their behaviour at the Chateaux and by the staff for their manners and listening. We were also told that their common sense at passport
control was excellent, unlike many other school parties. Very well done to this group. A special thanks to all the staff teams who did extra and covered for the staff who went on the visit. All the children will be given some souvenir pictures of the visit. There will be a Y6 French Presentation for parents/carers to share the children’s experiences next Tuesday 7th February at 3:10pm.
The Design And Crafting Club taken by Miss Pickerill.
7) Safer Internet Day
This is on Tuesday 7th February and all classes will be having an input about key messages to keep safe on line. If any parent/carer wants to report any serious e-safety issues, they can click the CEOP button on our St John’s website, which goes directly to the police. If the matter is not urgent, staff at school are always happy to help and deal with any issues.
8) Green Flag Award
We have been sent our Green Flag, which we will put up next week, for all our good work on Environment Education. The assessor commented that the Eco Warriors and Eco Council are doing great work in the school and are a credit to St John’s. The school shows a real commitment to all the work on the environment that it is doing. Very well done to all the Eco Teams in school.
9) Stranger Danger
The children were spoken to today about Stranger Danger and how to keep safe. Also, not to engage with any adult or young person that children do not know. Please talk to your child about this as well.
10) Parent/Carer Questionnaire – Coffee Mornings
We regularly hold coffee mornings in school. Unfortunately, we do not usually have many parents/carers who attend. Please could you fill in the questionnaire at the back of the newsletter and return to school by Wednesday 8th February. This will help us to see what you would like to see happening. Many thanks for your time.
11) Home School Link Worker Information
We are getting a lot of information about apps for phones and tablets that are inappropriate for our children. Children may have access to The Yellow app, live.me, MyLOL and many more. These
are dangerous sites and give sinister predators a chance to contact those using them. Please check your child’s electronic devices and discuss the dangers of these apps.
