Spring Term 5

Newsletter Spring Term 5

Dear Parent/Carer

As the weather has been chilly the last two weeks, it has been lovely to see the children so well wrapped up. To reassure you, we always insist that children put a coat on when they go out at lunchtime. Let’s hope the weather soon warms up.

1) Our Talking Topic
This week we have been thinking about ‘family and friends’ and how important it is to be loved and to show love. The children were told the story of the hated tax collector called Zacchaeus and how Jesus showed him he had done many wrong things. He then put things right, started afresh and mended his ways. Please talk to your child about this.

2) Our Value; Responsibility
This is something we actively encourage and teach at St John’s, as it can never start too early. Very well done to Alan Babu, Rasa Jazsadaphorn, Alisaa Saji Y6, Ben Morris, Anopa Mutize, Jensen Nguyen Y5/6, Adithya Sanil, Leona Johns Y4/5, Isabelle Godwin, Jonathon Harvey Y4, Theo Lovell, Rhys Wooliscroft Y3/4, Davis Kurian, Ana Litoiu, Donna Tejeda, Mohsin Ali Y3, Morpfeas Chatzopoulos, Anannya Sinilrai Y2, Sahej Bhullaqr Y1/2, Molly-Mai Heywood-Cox, Ratan Sangaraju Y1, Selim Saygili, Michael White R2, Sdan Osman R1, Hannah Rejith, Anush Sinilraj Nursery, who have all shown excellent responsibility this week.

3) Class of the Week Photo, Y4
The class were learning about Bar Mitzvah in Judaism.

4) School Club of the Week Pictures
Y6 Target Maths Booster group working hard with Miss Mazzei and Mrs Peake.

5) Events/Activities in School

  • Very well done to Mathesha Paris who passed the Beginner’s Certificate in school swimming.
  • Well done to Amin Miah and Anna Osman who have been appointed prefects this week.
  • Thank you to parents/carers who came to see the 2 showings of the recent French visit. We shall be putting some on the website shortly.
  • Thank you to parents/carers in Y2 who attended the Guided Reading Workshop on Wednesday.
  • A fund raising disco will be held tonight from 3:00-4:30pm.

6) Target Sharing Open Evenings Tuesday and Wednesday
Letters have gone out about these important meetings next week to share your child’s next target from Nursery to Y6. We shall also be reviewing Pupil Passports at these meetings. If you have not yet made an appointment please contact the class teacher.

7) Sainsbury’s Tokens
We have a box in school and save these for outside lunchtime resources. Please send any tokens in with the children as you need to collect a lot in order to get anything. Thank you for your help and support.

8) Reminders
This Friday, commencing at 9:05am is Y3/4 Class Assembly and next Friday is Y3 Class Assembly. We look forward to seeing parents/carers then.

9) Parking in Nearby Streets
The council are installing parking meters in nearby streets to stop hospital parking which fills up all the nearby roads. They will be resident only in Wheatly Avenue and meters in Harpfield Road. I think it will help the school but parents who do not live near still need to park safely and responsibly at the end of the school day. Hopefully, as the weather improves, more families who live nearby will walk, scoot or cycle to school.

10) School Council Fundraiser
Next Friday we shall be selling juice and biscuits for 30p, all through the school, to raise money for the R.S.P.C.A. This charity was voted for by the classes. Thank you for your support.

11) Parent Governor Vacancy
Attached to the newsletter are details of a Parent Governor Vacancy and information for parents/carers who wish to stand for election.

12) School Term Dates Survey 2017
Parents/Carers, as a result of last year’s survey and more recent discussions with Headteachers and Schools, we are asking you to choose your preference regarding the following two options for term dates in 2018 / 2019:

  • Option 1 is a standard holiday pattern with a six week summer holiday.
  • Option 2 is a reduced summer break by one week to five weeks, thus adding an extra week to the October half term.

(The full models are available at school and on request from sgs@stoke.gov.uk for you to review).
Please use the link below to show your preference by Friday 17th February at 6pm. http://webapps.stoke.gov.uk/snapsurveys/schooltermdates/schooltermdates.htm
