Early Years

At St John’s we know how important the Early Years of a child’s life are. This is where your child will begin their educational journey and learn those important lifelong skills.

We believe in Early Years that children need to be able to explore in a safe, friendly, stimulating and challenging environment.

In our Early Years at St John’s we have a Nursery class and 2 Reception classes.

Our nursery class can take up to 39 children and they get their funded 15 hours a week either every morning or afternoon. For those children who want to stay all day we charge £5 per day.

In Early Years we teach all 7 areas of learning.

Prime areas of learning are:-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development
Communication and Language

Specific areas of learning are:-
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design

We believe it is important for the children to be in charge of their own learning journey so we allow the children to choose the topics based on their own interests. This way they will be fully focused and want to learn.

We teach phonics and mathematics daily in both nursery and reception. The children are able to free flow both indoor and outdoor and choose child initiated and adult led activities.

We know how much children enjoy learning outdoors and how much of a positive impact this can have on their learning.

Here at St John’s we understand how important the early years are and we strive to give the children the best possible start to their education.
